Talavera Ceramics
Talavera Ceramics were introduced to Mexico during the Colonial Period .These ceramics were originally known as “Majolica” in Spain. Talavera de la Reina-(Queen’s Design) draws its name from the 16th Century pottery center in Spain.
The Floral and Celestial Motifs are classically Mexican ;while the Blue and White designs portray old world, Spanish Legacy Colonial designs. Many of these ceramic pieces originated from Puebla Mexico factories. Many pieces are still made by families who sign each of the pieces individually. Originally, in European countries a family surname was drawn from— the trade, art, product or spice from which a family or clan made its lively hood .Thus great pride was taken in craftsmanship. The Talavera pieces range in price due to quality and detailed design.( it takes from one hour to several days to complete them.) Tirza’s carries plate-ware, serving trays, pitchers, baskets, bowls and beautiful canister sets, you have to see these beautiful designs to appreciate.
